Hendrix professor wins CUR Fellows Award

Dr. Tom Goodwin, the Elbert L. Fausett Distinguished Professor of Chemistry and Julia Mobley Odyssey Professor at Hendrix College, is one of two professors nationally who will receive the CUR Fellows Award in June.

Experience the World

In just three short years, Hendrix has helped Katie ’10 study abroad in Spain, England and Mexico. She also recently returned from an Odyssey trip to Mexico for a writing conference and will take part in Odyssey trips to Ireland and India in the near future. “During my time at Hendrix I will have sextupled the number of countries I’ve visited from 3 to 18,” she said. "It’s revolutionized the way I see the world."

Above the Line Research

Dr. James Jennings and Hendrix education majors, with the support from an Odyssey Professorship grant, will build on their work with the Above the Line project with a three-year research project. This portion of the project will take them into the classroom on a regular basis to test the effectiveness of education strategies in low-performing, high-poverty schools in the Delta region of Arkansas.

A Celebration of the Life of Dr. Kenneth Story

The remembrance will be Sunday, October 18, at 3:00 p.m., in Reves Recital Hall in Trieschmann. The event is being planned and coordinated by several of Dr. Story’s colleagues. There will be time in the program for statements of remembrance and appreciation from members of the audience.

Students serve during Spring Break

Foregoing the beaches of Cancun for sands closer to home, nine Hendrix students spent their Spring Break in New Mexico for a week of service.

The volunteers worked on the Navajo Reservation for four days with the Four Corners United Methodist Mission. They painted rooms, offered childcare, and demolished several rotting wooden structures on Church property.

This 100,000 square-foot facility serves as the hub for all Hendrix athletics, fitness and wellness programs, intramural/outdoor sports in addition to being home to the Kinesiology Department. The WAC is available for use by Hendrix students, faculty, staff, alumni, retirees and the community.
